Convention update from Howard Adams

Additional information is now available for our trip to the 2009 International Convention in Dallas.

Departure/Return

  1. Departure: 1 July 8:25 am (American Air flt #1456)
  2. Return: 6 July 6:00 pm (getting to SLC at 7:44pm) (American Air flt #1925)

Medical Release Form (mail it!)

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE FILL OUT THE MEDICAL RELEASE FORM AND SEND ME YOUR NOTARISED FORM. Let us know if you didn't get one. I will make the two other copies we must have when we arrive at Convention.

ICON Housing: Sheraton Dallas

I have secured a room for the three male UI attendees, and one for four of the five female UI attendees. We will be in contact with Rocky Mountain District for additional sleeping space. Rooms + taxes came out to over $160 per night. The breakdown will be $40 per night per person for the 5 nights ($200). I will take care of the exchange with Rocky Mountain.

Registration is at the ICON early bird rate of $150 per person.

COST FOR TRANSPORTATION, HOUSING, & CONVENTION = $675. This amount is about half of what the other districts are charging (although they have figured in meals and entertainment and most have the Key Club members pay for the expenses of the administrators and chaperons).

I put these charges on a personal credit card and I would appreciate if you could reimberse me as soon as possible, preferably sent along with your NOTERISED MEDICAL RELEASE FORM. $650 + Med Form.

(Despite my delays in getting this convention info, please get me the release forms presto. The reImbersment would be nice too.)

Food

There is a Food Court adjacent to the Sheraton with special convention pricing at many of the establishments. You will be on your own for food.

Entertainment

We will have Sunday free and Andrew has tentatively secured transportation to Six Flags Over Texas with another District's bus (probably would be fair to chip in some change for the ride). If you decide to go to Six Flags the day admission is $48 - UNLESS YOU GET YOU TICKETS ON LINE (Six Flags Over Texas web site) WHERE IT IS ONLY $32 FOR YOUR ON LINE TICKET. For those not wishing to go to Six Flags, I stay at the Sheraton to meet Key Club supervision guidelines for any who do not wish to go to the park.
MONDAY - We choose a late afternoon flight so you will have a half a day for other entertainment and activities.

I will be calling each of you a couple of days before departure. If anyone is traveling in from far away to the SLC airport and needs a place to stay the night before departure, my wife and I have a couple of guest rooms and transportation to the airport for you.

Please examine the information from Key Club International and pack accordingly.

Finally, Thank you for deciding to go to ICON. In the recent past it was mandatory for Govenors and Lt. Govenors to attend from our district. This is not the case this year. I have tried to keep any convention financial costs down for you. For some I might be too austire. That will something we will address.

Convention schedule changed

Due to various emerging constraints, the convention's schedule has been shortened. We will now be leaving on the morning of July 1 and coming back on the evening of July 6. These changes can be seen on the 2009 convention page. The price for attending the conference has also decreased (see the the invitation).

If you have any questions, please contact us as soon as possible.
